Robbie Schulz
I grew up in Iowa and my sports changed with the seasons. I loved the variety and played basketball & volleyball when it was cold, ran track in the spring and lived for the summer months where I would sail, bike, ride horses, swim and run. After college I moved to Carlsbad, picked up surfing, triathlons, distance trail running, a husband and 3 kids, John (15), Joanie (11) and Rylee (7).
I began teaching strength/ conditioning classes and personal training in 2003. In 2007 I met a workout partner who told me I wasn’t squatting “deep enough”. He sent me a squat video from the Crossfit website and I was hooked. I started training at Oceanside Crossfit under Level 2 coaches (Jeff and Laura) and have spent the past 2 1/2 years honing my coaching skills. I am passionate about teaching Crossfit and am excited to launch Carlsbad Crossfit at Pure Fitness.

Hey Robbie,
Cassio here. So…. after last Saturday’s class I have been pretty much in intensive recovery mode from really messing up my lower back. I saw Mike, the chiropractor, and luckily my spine or hips were not really that out of alignment. Most of it is attributed to extremely tight hamstrings and gluteus area. To the point I could barely stand up Sat afternoon, most of Sunday and slowly getting back to an erect posture on Monday.
I want to continue with the classes but I will really need you help tailoring movements to my limitations. I cannot be doing endless squats with bars and weights… at least not until I strengthen those areas. Andy has worked on them with a series of deep tissue massages which have helped greatly but I confess I am afraid of tomorrow’s class. I am not 100% recovered so IF I do attend, I need a low level variation of the exercises.
Looking forward to getting stronger in those areas!

Ok i’ll give you a modified workout for tonight. Come and we’ll see how you do. Sorry we triggered your low back pain. No squats for you tonight!
Hi Robbie,
My name is Danny and I have been Crossfitting for 8 months in my Team’s garage gym in Poway. We train a team of 12-18 people from high school football players to grandmothers.
I just relocated here to Carlsbad to be closer to work, and saw your site. Congrats on your CF gym!
I am CrossFit level one certified (just 3 weeks ago at CF Marina) and wanted to reach out and see if you ever need a hand coaching your people I am here for you. I have 15 years experience in MMA and fitness. Found CrossFit and was hooked. We use a 12 class “On Ramp” class devised by CrossFit NorCal that works well and teaches the fundamentals to CrossFitters to ease them in.
Please feel free to contact me to chat.

Hi Robbie-
Wish you much success with CC. Because of your help and introducing me to Crossfit, I have become stonger, a bit leaner (20 lbs)and feel less stressed at work. Actually I like pushing back from the work computer and taking time for myself. That being said, if I knew what the WOD was ahead of time, I probably would run in the other direction but as I push myself, I feel so much more confident and see the results. Thank you for turning me onto the challenge of Crossfit.
Hi Robbie, just thought I would point out a typo in your cert list:
Crossfit Nutrition Certification, Roff Wolfe
I would assume you meant Robb Wolf. Just thought I would let you know.
Great job bringing CF to Carlsbad.
